Issues related to ‘same-sex marriage’ are also a burden on G7 chair country Japan

Japan is trying to expand its diplomatic position on the occasion of the G7 summit of seven major countries to be held in Hiroshima in May.

However, by international standards, it looks like it has lost its face as the G7 chair country with outdated practices and perceptions.

One of the main agendas of the G7 summit of the seven major countries to be held in Hiroshima in May is the situation in Ukraine.

In the meantime, the leaders of the G7 countries have personally visited Ukraine to confirm their support for Ukraine.

But Japan’s prime minister, the only one of the G7 countries, has yet to visit Ukraine.

Japan, the host country of this year’s G7 summit, is in trouble.

In addition, the G20 foreign ministers meeting was held in India on the 1st, but Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa was absent.

Criticism was poured out that it had damaged Japan’s diplomacy, citing the customary reason that all cabinet members must attend the National Assembly’s budget review.

Social issues in Japan are also embarrassing for Japan, the G7 chair country.

One of the issues in Japanese society is same-sex marriage, and Japan is the only G7 country that does not recognize same-sex marriage.

Japan seeks to expand its diplomatic presence on the war in Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific agenda through the G7 summit in Hiroshima.

It seems difficult to avoid criticism that Japan has lost face as the G7 chair country with a series of appearances that Japan has shown in foreign affairs and domestic issues.
