[동해안 산불] Gangneung-Donghae wildfires extinguished in 90 hours... 4,000 hectares of ashes

A fire horse was caught in about 90 hours by turning the forests around Okgye and the East Sea of Gangneung into a swampy field.

The forestry authorities announced that the main fire had been extinguished around 7:00 pm on the 8th, and the system had begun to extinguish residual fires and to monitor the rear lights.

It has been exactly 89 hours and 52 minutes since the fire broke out at 1:08 am on the 5th.

The forest fire has turned to ashes, covering 1,900 hectares in Gangneung and 2,100 hectares in the East Sea so far.

It is more than 13 times the area of Yeouido (290 hectares, the area inside the Yunjung-ro embankment), and 5,602 times the area of a soccer field (0.714 hectares).

As for the property damage, 130 houses including houses were burned down in the East Sea, and 53 houses were partially burned. In Gangneung, 10 houses were burnt down and 4 were partially burned.

There were 116 victims, including 110 and 6 in the East Sea and Gangneung.

The wildfire started with the ‘torch arson’ of a man in his 60s who harbored a grudge against the residents.

For four days, 106 helicopters were deployed to extinguish the wildfire, and 11,000 manpower was deployed to fight the fire.

Forest authorities plan to establish a plan to support damage and restore forest damage after conducting an accurate on-site investigation of property damage and forest fire damage.

It plans to designate an area responsible for extinguishing residual fires and monitor the rear lights, and use helicopters and personnel to prevent further damage.

On the other hand, the Samcheok forest fire went into the night extinguishing system without being able to extinguish the main fire until sunset that day.

Helicopters were focused on Uljin, and due to thick smoke and thick smoke, there was no progress at the rate of evolution at 80%.

The forestry authorities put in about 100 people to build a defense line. The special firefighters, who had accumulated fatigue from the continuous overnight evolution, returned home after sunset to prevent safety accidents.

In Samcheok, 650 hectares of forest have been burned so far. Three houses, a military socho and an ammunition depot were all burned down, and the first floor of the Gopo Village Hall in Wondeok-eup was partially burned down. There were two victims in the first generation.

The forestry authorities are planning to mobilize all available helicopters and firefighting personnel as soon as the sun rises on the 9th to catch the main fire.
