It has been confirmed that the public-private council, which is being formed by the Korean government to resolve the issue of compensation for damages from forced labor, the biggest issue in Korea-Japan relations, will be officially launched on the 4th.

However, it seems that the victims’ parties will not attend the first meeting in person.

Reporter Jo Soo-hyun reports exclusively.

The public-private council, which the government is organizing to find a solution to compensation for forced labor, will officially launch on the 4th.

The victim’s representative said this in a call with YTN.

It was said that several officials from the victims’ side attended the first meeting, but the victims did not directly attend.

In addition, he said that he has never received a request from the government to collect opinions from victims on a specific proposal, so it is expected that they will seek a solution together after the establishment of the council.

Regarding some media reports that South Korea and Japan are coordinating a plan to create a 30 billion won victims’ compensation fund, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs official confirmed that it was not true.

With the final ruling of the Korean Supreme Court expected in August or September, measures to liquidate Japanese corporate assets in Korea are approaching, making it more urgent to come up with a solution.

Interest is focused on how the government will solve the problem of forced mobilization, which is considered to be the biggest obstacle to improving Korea-Japan relations, and what dynamics the public-private council will play in the process.
