The BIM4 was trained in low mountain winter techniques

Ushuaia – During the course of last week, the Marine Infantry Battalion No. 4 (BIM4), dependent on the Austral Marine Infantry Force (FAIA), carried out an instruction and training campaign in the low mountain areas surrounding the valley of Tierra Mayor, in the province of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands.

Likewise, in the area of the Ojo del Albino glacier, displacement exercises were carried out in snowy areas. The Unit’s staff put into practice safety techniques on slopes, such as self-arrest and roped, igloo construction, and principles of ice climbing and anchoring in snow.

As part of the training, a final check was planned by the BIM4 Commander, Commander IM Luciano Gordillo, in which the aforementioned procedures were evaluated.

These exercises are carried out in order to acquire individual and group skills to operate in mountainous terrain, adapt to the geographical environment of low mountains and southern mountains, and increase training levels in mountaineering and survival.
