North Korea has repeatedly praised Chairman Kim Jong-un, claiming that he succeeded in quarantine against Corona 19.
The United States has added 10 individuals and institutions to sanctions for violating the human rights of North Koreans.

For two days in a row, North Korea put forward the eradication of Corona 19 as its achievement of the year.
The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Workers’ Party of Korea, advertised that winning a great victory in the emergency anti-epidemic battle to protect people’s lives and safety was a significant achievement of the year.
At the same time, he praised the will and dedication of Chairman Kim Jong-un, who took responsibility for protecting the lives and health of the people until the end.
The Labor Newspaper praised the previous day as well, saying that thanks to Chairman Kim’s dedication to the people, he had achieved a great victory in quarantine.
As such, the successive emphasis on Chairman Kim’s quarantine achievements is interpreted as an attempt to calm residents’ dissatisfaction with the control and extreme economic difficulties caused by Corona 19 and increase internal solidarity.

In the midst of this, the United States has imposed additional independent sanctions against North Korea.
The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control announced sanctions against North Korea on two individuals and eight organizations for human rights abuses of North Koreans.
In relation to the North Korean 4/26 children’s film studio, which is already under sanctions for arranging illegal employment, individuals and organizations that have directly engaged in financial transactions or assisted them have been subject to sanctions.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury also sanctioned the Border Protection Agency, which is in charge of patrolling the North Korea-China and North Korea-Russia borders.
The reason is that the agency discourages North Koreans from escaping North Korea with strict border controls such as landmines and aimed fire orders.
The US Senate also passed a North Korean Human Rights Act reauthorization bill that extends the North Korean Human Rights Act, which expires in fiscal year 2022, for another five years to fiscal year 2027, raising the possibility of reauthorization within the year.
