???? Man exploits almost a third of vertebrate species

Scientists have measured the impact of humanity on some 46,755 species of vertebrates around us. Result ? We are the most ruthless predators.

Compared to wild predators of similar size, we capture or kill nearly 100 times more vertebrate species. For example, killer whales, despite having a range and social behaviors similar to ours, consume 121 types of vertebrates. We also consume 83 of these vertebrates, as well as 10,337 other marine species. The situation is identical on the earth (Earth is the third planet of the Solar System by order of distance…) firm. Jaguars (Jaguars is the first book in the Rails sci-fi comic book series.) consume 9 types of prey. Humans consume the same 9, plus another 2,698 in regions where the two coexist. For Boris Worm, biologist (On other Wikimedia projects:) in marine conservation at Dalhousie University (Dalhousie University or Dalhousie University in English, is a Canadian university…) in Canada, this study shows how much ( Graphie) the species (In the life sciences, the human species (from the Latin species, “type”) is atypical. Consumption is only part of the story. We also use these species for clothes, traditional medicines, souvenirs and even companionship.

Analyzing data from the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Boris Worm and his team identified 14,663 species exploited by humans (A man is an adult male individual of the species called Modern Man (Homo …) Only 55% are killed for food, the rest being used as pets or to make products.

Chris Darimont, ecologist at the University of Victoria, points out that this excessive predation testifies to an imbalance between man and nature. Indeed, 13% of the species we exploit are vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered (In general, the word extinction designates an action consisting in extinguishing something…). Robbie Burger, macroecologist at the University of Kentucky, points out that the entertainment industry and social networks also influence our interaction (An interaction is an exchange of information, affects or energy between two agents within…) with animals, citing the example of the popularity of owls due to the Harry Potter saga.

For Boris Worm, this study provides tools to prioritize species conservation and encourage behavioral change.
