The park (A park is an enclosed natural area,[1] formed of woods or meadows, in which were…) of the Becheville castle (The Becheville castle is located on the Becheville plateau, commune of Mureaux,…)

Becheville Castle is located on the Becheville plateau, commune of Mureaux, in the Yvelines department.

Description

  • The current castle, which dates from the middle of the 19th century, was built in the taste (For the faculty of judging beautiful things, see Taste (aesthetic)) of the Second Empire for the mixture (A mixture is an association of two or more solid, liquid or gaseous substances…) styles. The roof is made of slate. The symmetrical facade has a brick facing. Stones adorn the chains and windows. In the rooms with high ceilings (By extension, a ceiling represents the maximum of something:), the windows (sitting dogs and bull’s eye windows), the tapestries and the mirrors still bear witness to the Empire style. The wall woodwork is inspired by Pompeii: Roman head in a medallion, motifs of flowers and animals (dove, butterfly), frieze of flowers surrounding the room. There is also a hunting room and a music room.
  • The castle has an oil on canvas entitled Autumn or Rest after the Hunt, which was restored at the end of the 20th century. This is an old copy of a work by Fran莽ois Boucher dating from 1734 and which has now disappeared. In the same room, there is another painting (Painting can have several meanings depending on the context used:) representing a rider watering his horses at a fountain.
  • An alignment of small coat racks reminds us that the castle was once transformed into a school.
  • A wooded park, which initially covered 22 hectares, faces the castle. A cooler was used to store provisions.

Historical

  • For more than two centuries, the Vion family, originally from Burgundy, owned the lordships of Mureaux and Becheville. We find, successively:
    • Jean I de Vion (- 1537) (ep. Marie de Janailhac)
    • Guillaume (Guillaume is a male first name of Germanic origin. The name comes from Wille, will and Helm,…) de Vion (1506 – 1571), son of the previous one (ep. Marie de Fontaines)
    • Jacques 1st de Vion (1535 – 1610), son of the previous one (ep. Marie de Forest)
    • Mathieu de Vion (- 1645), son of the previous one (ep. Madeleine Bochart de Champigny); from this time, dates the construction of the first castle of Becheville.
    • Jacques de Vion, son of the preceding (ep. Madeleine d’Ailly)
    • Jean Paul de Vion (- ~1727), son of the previous one, last lord of Mureaux and Becheville
  • In 1776, Pierre Louis Randon de Lucenay, knight, bought the Becheville estate. He made himself popular by refusing, in bad years, to collect tax on his peasants’ crops. During the Revolution, he willingly abandoned his privileges and thus saved his life (Life is the name given:) and his castle.
  • In 1811, Pierre Daru (Pierre-Antoine-No毛l-Mathieu Bruno Daru (born in Montpellier on January 12, 1767 – died in Meulan on…) (1767-1829), man (A man is an adult male individual of the species called Modern Man (Homo…) of State, Count of the Empire, acquired the domain. The same year (A year is a unit of time expressing the duration between two occurrences of an event linked… ), the Darus receive their cousin Stendhal at the castle. He spends three weeks there. He courts Alexandrine Daru, wife of his host, but in vain. After this romantic disappointment, he leaves for Italy. Stendhal will relate this event in his novel, The Red and the Black. Alexandrine becomes Madame de B and the castle bears various pseudonyms. The novelist admits to having “lost the battle of Becheville”. Between 1850 and 1860, Napol茅on Daru, son of Pierre, had it built the current castle.

Napoleon Daru

  • After 1890, the year of the death of Napol茅on Daru, F茅lix Hubin acquired the property which then comprised 600 hectares, then various owners succeeded one another. until 1953, when the city bought the castle and the park. The castle was transformed into a school, the school group (In France, a school group is an educational establishment, including primary and…) Jules Ferry (Jules Ferry, born April 5, 1832 in Saint-Di茅 (Vosges) and died on…), and the park is partly subdivided to make in the face of population growth. Since 1977, the castle has housed the Arts Center, a municipal music conservatory.
