1. FC Cologne: Steffen Baumgart: plain text on Cologne’s storm crisis | Sports

The good news first: Cologne striker Davie Selke (28) can play against Bochum on Friday (8.30 p.m. / DAZN)!

“He’s completely recovered. So not only a candidate for the squad, but also for the starting eleven,” says Steffen Baumgart (51).

It will be the next attempt for the winter newcomer to finally prove his skills at FC. So far, Selke (0 goals/0 assists) has been injured three times, in the Berlin 0-0 he was last on the bench with chills.

Plain text on the striker crisis!

The Cologne attackers are goalless for 699 minutes. Above all, the injury epidemic of hopeful Selke causes Baumgart to create: “I told the boys that it would be nice if we stopped doing that. To be able to do normal planning again.”

And further: “I assume that they will stick to it. Also tell Davie that he will now be healthy longer and not injured anymore. Then he will get into a good rhythm from our point of view, so that he can really show his performance.”

Is Selke frustrated because of his many failures?

Baumgart: “It’s really bad luck that he had a few problems. He didn’t play badly or not do what he’s supposed to do in training. He was always slowed down by small things.”

Baumgart continues: “You can already tell that he – I wouldn’t say frustrated – already struggles with falling behind a little bit again and again. He couldn’t do that before.”

Cologne’s storm worries are not just Selke worries. Neither Steffen Tigges (24) nor Sargis Adamyan (29) are convincing. Especially Adamyan plays a more than disappointing season!

Baumgart: “I think we all expected a bit more. When he came, he wasn’t in the same condition – in terms of athleticism and condition – as he is now. It has become clearer, many processes work better.”

And further: “But the situation is that we start with either Tigges or Davie. And as a second striker, Linton Maina is doing very well. That’s why we should all be more patient together. Nevertheless, we would be happy if he scored more goals…”

Means: Against Selke and Tigges, Adamyan in the center has no starting eleven chances! And this despite the fact that its competitors have been stuck in the goal crisis for weeks…
