10 Billion Euros in Public Health Savings: Bruno Le Maire’s Plan Unveiled

In June 2023, at the Public Finance Conference, the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Lemaire, indicated that at least 10 billion euros in savings would be made on public spending and in particular on Social Security. The war on daily allowances and sick leave was then declared, followed by an increase in medical deductibles. It’s not sufficient. Bruno Le Maire announces 10 billion euros in additional savings and health will once again be called upon.

In order to prepare minds, the new Minister of Health, Frédéric Valletouxtook advantage of the questions to the government on February 28, to incidentally raise the questioning of the system for caring for long-term conditions (ALD).

As a reminder, when a patient is affected by certain chronic, serious and costly illnesses (tumors, heart failure, cancer, diabetes, advanced neurodegenerative diseases, etc.), they benefit from 100% coverage by Social Security care directly related to this disease. With precise diagnostic criteria, the Ministry of Health has established a list of 29 exempt conditions.

Removing some ALDs and transferring part of the sums paid for these conditions to complementary insurance would advantageously reduce the Social Security budget. Why deprive yourself of it?
