10 dead confirmed after confrontation in La Concordia, Chiapas

THE CONCORD.- The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) reported that 10 people lost their lives in two acts of violence in the municipality of La Concordia, Chiapas.

On March 31, a confrontation between armed groups was reported in La Concordia without confirming the number of injuries or deaths.

Days later, on April 2, the ‘Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas’ Human Rights Center noted that at least 25 people died in an altercation between the National Guard and an armed group in the aforementioned municipality.

During the morning of AMLO This Wednesday, April 3, the president assured that the confrontation in Chiapas would have left no more than 10 dead, despite NGO reports of 25 deaths.

“It’s not true, there must be like 10 in two groups, five in one part and another five another day,” said the president.

Hours later the SSCP issued a statement confirming the figure released by the president and indicated that it was the result of two confrontations.

The first conflict occurred in Nuevo Paraíso ejido, municipality of La Concordia, according to the SSCP between two groups of armed men.

At the scene, five men lost their lives due to the impact of a firearm, and an element of the National Guard was injured and was transferred to receive medical attention.

After both confrontations, 13 people of Guatemalan origin were arrested.

At the site of the second attack, 22 long weapons (21 AK-47 rifles and one HK G-3 rifle), 149 magazines, 13 tactical vests and two vehicles were seized.
