Horror movie “The Invitation” topped the North American box office after its weekend release, despite its poor revenue.
And “The Invitation” only earned $7 million in revenue between Friday and Sunday, which is the worst in 15 months for a film that occupies the first place in the ranking.
Variety noted that this weekend had seen “a catastrophic lack of movement”, according to specialist Expeter Relations.
The company “Sony”, which produced this feature film, did not cost more than 10 million dollars.
Thomas Doherty and Natalie Emmanuel play the main roles in this Dracula-inspired film, which analyst David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research said it had “never been well received by critics”.
The action movie “Bullet Train” came in second with $5.6 million in the weekend.
In the film, Brad Pitt plays one of the seven murderers who try to eliminate each other on a high-speed train between Tokyo and Kyoto.
In third place came “Best”, produced by “Universal” and directed by Icelandic Baltasar Kormacor, with 4.9 million dollars at the end of the week, ahead of “Top Gun: Maverick”, which took 4.7 million dollars in its fourteenth week.
The movie, starring Tom Cruise, grossed $691 million in North America and $720 million in the rest of the world.
As for the animated movie “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero”, the twenty-first film in the famous Japanese series, it fell from the lead it had last week to the fifth place, as its revenues did not exceed 4.6 million dollars this week.
In sixth place came “De She League or Super Beats”, with revenues of 4.2 million dollars, and in seventh place came “Three Thousand Years of Longing” with 2.9 million dollars.
In eighth place came “Minnie’s: The Rise of Growing” with earnings of $2.7 million, “Thor: Love and Thunder” came in ninth place with $2.7 million, and in tenth place was “Where the Crowded’s Singh” with $2.3 million.
