After the iPad Pro M2 which were launched in October 2022, there should be no new iPad Pro models in 2023: the next generation would be released in early 2024, according to Ross Young’s sources. The analyst specializing in screens had already blown us this information two months ago, saying that the two future models would be equipped with OLED technology panels with two emissive layers for better brightness and longer life.
Today, the 11″ iPad Pro is equipped with a classic LCD screen while the 12.9″ model incorporates a more advanced Mini-LED technology which allows it to present true blacks. OLED technology also makes it possible to achieve this absolute contrast, but with better precision (the lighting is done at the level of each pixel and not by zones) and lower consumption, all on a thinner and lighter panel. This development would therefore be beneficial for both models.
iPad Pro 11″ and 12.9″
Ross Young adds today on MacRumors an interesting indiscretion: the iPad Pro M3 would have slightly larger screens, with diagonals of 11.1″ and 13″ instead of 11″ and 12.9″ today. This slight increase in the diagonal of a tenth of an inch, or a quarter of a centimeter, could betray reduced margins around the screen: the chassis could keep the same dimensions.
Unless Apple takes the opportunity to change everything and switch to a Dynamic Island? The front sensors of the iPad Pro define the thickness of the margin around the slab: adopt a punch like on the iPhone 14 Pro would overcome this constraint. Of course, this is only a hypothesis and Ross Young does not shed any light on the question. There is also the problem of the integration of a horizontal webcam and how to make it coexist with the Apple Pencil 2 charging system: it’s probably in the works, but we don’t know what solution Apple will choose.
Other information shared by Ross Young, Apple would have abandoned or seriously postponed its plan for a very large iPad Pro model: the analyst had previously mentioned a 14.1″ model for 2023 but it would no longer be relevant.
