From January to April, 1,448 companies went bankrupt in Switzerland, an increase of 15% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to a Dun&bradstreet study published on Wednesday.
At the same time, 16,639 new companies were entered in the commercial register, a result that is still down 5% compared to the same previous year.
Geographically, the balance sheet is disparate. Zurich records an increase in bankruptcies of almost 52%. In eastern Switzerland and Espace Mittelland, Dun&bradstreet reports increases of 24% and 22% respectively. Far ahead, central Switzerland recorded only a 3% increase in insolvency cases.
For the month of April alone, the number of bankruptcies increased by 7% over one year. A total of 324 cases have been recorded. As regards the creation of companies, always for the same period, the number decreased by 10%, that is to say 3945 new companies registered in the commercial register.
Dun&bradstreet highlights in its publication the results recorded in the only two regions where the number of bankrupt companies has fallen, namely French-speaking Switzerland (-1%) and Ticino (-10%).
