15-year-old seriously injured in police chase in Laval

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) is investigating the collision causing a serious injury following a police chase overnight from Thursday to Friday, in Laval.

The accident began around 12:10 a.m. when two patrol officers from the Service de police de Laval (SPL) tried to intercept a vehicle that had violated the Highway Safety Code in the Chomedey sector.

The driver at fault reportedly refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, the car would have been traveling at high speed on boulevard Saint-Martin Ouest, in an easterly direction.

At the intersection of boulevard Saint-Martin Ouest and rue du Couvent, he reportedly hit a moped. During the impact, the 15-year-old driver of the moped was seriously injured.

He was taken to a hospital where he is believed to be in critical condition. The SPL confirmed on Friday morning that there would be no fear for his life.

The driver, 18 years old, will be met by the police of the SPL.

Six BEI investigators were assigned to investigate the circumstances of the event.

In accordance with the Regulation respecting the conduct of investigations of the Bureau of Independent Investigations, the parallel investigation was entrusted to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which will also act as a support police service.
