Did you know that the game which holds the – sad – record for the longest development is French? Today, a fifteen-year-old video resurfaces, even though the title has still not been released.
Does “Beyond Good & Evil 2” mean anything to you? Ubisoft’s action-adventure game, officially announced in 2008, has still not been released to this day. As BFMTV notes, the project has held a sad record since last year, that of the longest development in history (ahead of Duke Nukem Forever). In short, we’re not ready to see the color – at least, not as a finished product. Yesterday, on X – the old Twitter -, 15 year old cutscenes have resurfaced.

It’s the BG&E Myth account – aware of all the news on the Ubisoft game – which brings us the information: “Unpublished cutscenes from Beyond Good & Evil 2 (from 2008) have just been discovered by a fan”, we can read in a message published on September 25, 2023. All of this allows us to discover a new scene with Pey’j, Jade’s uncle in the first episode, and “Double H”, a soldier who also helps the heroine. The two protagonists are laughing, leaning on a bar. This is the first time that we have a glimpse of the second character in this Beyond Good & Evil 2. The animation is the work of Damien Barranco, an animator at Ubisoft who worked on the first part.

An interesting curiosity, but which will not satisfy those | those who are waiting for this second opus. After an initial hiatus, Beyond Good & Evil 2 returned to the spotlight in 2016. At the time, Ubisoft returned with trailers and even a “Monkey Space Program”, a regular video format taking stock on development progress! However, little by little, the news becomes scarce… Until 2020 when Michel Ancel, Rayman’s father at the head of the project, left Ubisoft in the wake of Libération’s investigations into toxic management methods within the firm. Nothing since, even though we know from a reliable source that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development. Recently, the first episode would return for its twentieth anniversary.
