A British baby with brown urine has been diagnosed with Wilms tumor, a type of kidney cancer.

On the 3rd (local time), the British media Daily Mail introduced the story of Stacey Hart (32) and her son Jackson, who live in south London. Jackson, born in June 2022, began showing abnormal symptoms in October last year, when he was 16 months old. He continued to cough and make ‘wheezing’ sounds when he breathed, and he also urinated brown urine, which was unusual. “I’ve been babysitting for over 10 years, and I’ve never seen urine that color,” Stacey said. “I was worried it might be blood.”

Stacey took Jackson to the local emergency room for a urine test and ultrasound. As a result, a 5cm tumor was discovered in Jackson’s kidney. The medical team diagnosed Jackson with ‘Wilms tumor.’ Wilms tumor is a type of kidney cancer that occurs in the kidneys of children, causing bloating, blood in the urine, difficulty breathing, coughing, urinary difficulties, and high blood pressure. Stacey said, “The tumor on Jackson’s kidney was larger than his kidney,” and “It was expected that the cancer had spread to the lungs, but additional tests did not confirm metastasis.”

Jackson began chemotherapy three days after his diagnosis. Over the course of about a month, he underwent five rounds of chemotherapy, and had surgery to remove his skin in November last year. After undergoing additional chemotherapy for four weeks, he was declared fully cured on December 22 of the same year. Stacey said, “Miraculously, he was diagnosed with a full recovery a few days before Christmas,” and added, “I am grateful that Jackson’s body sent us a signal through urine.”
