Fanny Ardant, Cécile de France, Diane Kruger and Karin Viard; Benjamin Biolay, Franck Dubosc, Vincent Elbaz and Benjamin Lavernhe (non-exhaustive list). The cast of the 16th Angoulême Francophone Film Festival (FFA) looks great. The event takes place from August 22 to 27 and, already, the 2023 edition promises to be that of all superlatives, with 78 feature films on the bill (including 11 in competition) and an attendance undoubtedly higher than the record of last summer (52,000 spectators, +40%).

The poster for the 16th Angoulême Francophone Film Festival (FFA) was designed by visual artist, illustrator and author of comics Audrey Sedano.

never there Ticketing had thus overheated! Nearly two thirds of the 150 sessions are sold out. The attractive price (25 euros for 10 films) does not explain everything. “The cinema is doing much better and the public trusts us”, rejoices Marie-France Brière, general delegate.

On the 22nd, opening night, ” The little “a drama by Guillaume Nicloux with Fabrice Luchini, will be screened to sold-out crowds.

It will be the same during the other big previews (out of competition) every evening at 8 p.m.: “A matter of honor”costume film by and starring Vincent Perez; « Vision »the latest thriller by Yann Gozlan; ” New start “, a romantic comedy by Philippe Lefebvre; And “Abbé Pierre, a life of struggle”a biopic by Frédéric Tellier.

In closing, « Flo », by Géraldine Danon, will tell the story of navigator Florence Arthaud, in the guise of actress Stéphane Caillard. Again, places will be expensive!

The official selection, more demanding, was a tad less taken by storm. With a bit of luck, you can find a jump seat there. Three films spotted at Cannes are in the running: ” Nothing to lose ” by Delphine Deloget with Virginie Efira; “Time to Love” by Katell Quillévéré; And « Rosalie » by Stéphanie Di Giusto.

Also in competition: “Iris and the Men”, new film by Caroline Vignal after “Antoinette in the Cévennes”, where we find Laure Calamy; And “The Poet’s Bride”which marks Yolande Moreau’s return to directing, ten years after “Henri”.
