A 17-year-old driver died in a traffic accident in Knittelfeld (Murtal district) on Monday evening. As the Styria State Police Directorate announced on Tuesday, shortly after 7 p.m. he left the rain-soaked roadway of the L504, probably due to excessive speed. The vehicle rolled over several times. Four other vehicle occupants between the ages of 16 and 21 were injured, two of them seriously.

The driver was probably not wearing a seatbelt. Police interviews revealed that both the driver and the passengers had consumed alcohol and marijuana before setting off. The parents of the killed 17-year-old from the Leoben district were informed of their son’s death in the presence of the crisis intervention team; the L504 was closed to all traffic until shortly before 10 p.m.

The injured were taken by rescue to the LKH Judenburg. A 21-year-old and a 16-year-old from the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district were seriously injured, while a 16-year-old from the Weiz district and a 17-year-old from the Leoben district were injured to an unspecified degree.
