20 dead in the resort of Murree

Thousands of tourists flock to Murree in northeastern Pakistan to enjoy the snow. But the heavy snowfall is a death trap for at least 20 people. Is the cold or is carbon monoxide poisoning the cause of death?

It should have been a fun trip to a mountain health resort. It has been snowing in northern Pakistan since Tuesday, and so hundreds of families in their vehicles set off for Murree to spend pleasant hours in the snow in the small town north of the capital Islamabad at an altitude of 2291 meters. But the trip ended fatally for several tourists, including children. They died after their vehicles got stuck on the streets in freezing temperatures. Initially there was talk of 16 fatalities, later this number rose to 20. The Pakistani authorities announced on Saturday.
