Indonesia’s football association had initially expressed interest in a joint bid with Australia, along with Malaysia and Singapore, but Australia was hit back when Indonesia indicated its support for Saudi Arabia.
Football Australia has announced that it is withdrawing from the bid to host the FIFA World Cup after examining all the factors involved in hosting the World Cup. Australia may bid to host the 2029 Club World Cup and the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup. ‘We believe we are in a strong position to host the world’s oldest women’s international competition, the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026, and then welcome the best teams in world football for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup,’ the FA said in a statement.
Australia and New Zealand hosted the Women’s World Cup in July and August. When the 2032 Summer Games take place, the Queensland state of Brisbane will become the third Australian city to host the Olympics.
