Auto123 performs a first test of the 2023 Genesis G90.
Miami, Floride – It has been many, many years since air conditioning has been used as a significant selling point for a car. Kind of like the motels that advertised color television. But, if we can call it a given now, for three days in the late July heat of South Florida, the air conditioning let us appreciate it at its true worth. None of the many features of the revised 2023 Genesis G90 – and there are a multitude of them – were so valuable to those of us who are not used to the oppressive heat of this place at this time of year.
Features galore
Efficient air conditioning has some competition in the G90, to be sure. There is the seat massage system, present on the four seats of the flagship sedan of the Korean manufacturer, which is in its second generation. The VIP seat in the right rear row, which can be tilted almost completely backwards and has a footrest, is also an asset for relaxation. There is also the function of real steering wheels, which reduces the turning radius of this boat almost to that of a compact car. And the Smart air suspension system, which helps the car anticipate road shocks, so passengers often don’t notice a thing. The style
The new G90 sedan is not radically different from the old one, but it incorporates more of the current design’s signature elements found on other revised or recently introduced Genesis models, for example the G70 and G80 sedans. and the GV70 and GV80 SUVs. Above all, we note the ultra-thin two-line headlights that frame the grille with its G-Matrix design, and behind that a shell-shaped hood. The new edition is wider and lower than the outgoing G90, and sits on 21-inch wheels with a stepped design.
The rear, as is often the case with large sedans, is less exciting, although the lighting is quite attractive with the two lines spanning the width of the car.

What is more important in the case of an executive sedan like this is what happens in the interior, whose hectares of space are accessible, moreover, thanks to exclusive door handles which come out of their recessed position when you approach the car, key ring in hand or in your pocket.
Genesis’ first challenge to its rivals in the segment is to create a luxurious environment that matches (or exceeds) those offered by Mercedes and company; his second is to ensure that this environment is both uncluttered and full of features.
It’s debatable whether Genesis really rises to the same level of luxury as the big Germans, but it comes close, no doubt – especially in this flagship, the most luxurious in Genesis’ current lineup, including its SUVs. . The finish is top notch and the materials are pleasing to the touch and look, whether it’s the ‘crown and log stripe’ wood, the inviting upholstery colors on offer, the forged carbon elements or the metallic accents.

As for the question of decluttering, it depends a bit on where you look. The upper dash is fairly clean and uncluttered, the dual screens are in the spotlight with few buttons of any kind around them, and the air conditioning vents are unobtrusive to the point of being invisible. Looking down things get livelier, with the buttons (and rotary knobs) not seen above now present and conveniently placed near the driver’s right hand. .
It’s all fairly intuitive and it’s absolutely a good thing that essential commands aren’t imprisoned solely in on-screen menus. But there’s a learning curve to knowing precisely what to push, turn, swivel or whatever to do what you want to do.
You will notice an additional, solitary button on the armrest of each door. This is the button you press if you want to open (or close) your door. It’s debatable if this is an improvement over an actual handle, but at least it helps with decluttering.
