The 2023 Ma’anshan Caishiji Half Marathon kicked off on the 5th in Ma’anshan City, Anhui Province, attracting more than 10,000 runners at home and abroad. Olympic weightlifting champion Meng Suping and Anhui diving world champion Zhou Luxin led the way.

This event is the first large-scale marathon in Ma’anshan. It is certified by the China Athletics Association and hosted by the Anhui Provincial Sports Bureau and the Ma’anshan Municipal People’s Government. It has three events: half marathon, fitness running and family parent-child running.

After more than an hour of fierce competition, Fidelis Kiplimo Cheruiyot from Kenya was the first to cross the line in the men’s half marathon, winning the men’s championship with a time of 1 hour, 04 minutes and 59 seconds; Muleta Deyisa Felate from Ethiopia, with a time of 1 hour, 05 minutes and 58 seconds. KASITIT MICHAEL LOYWALA from Kenya won the third place with a time of 1 hour, 08 minutes and 52 seconds.

In the women’s category, Balemelay Shumet Kebede from Ethiopia won the championship with a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes and 12 seconds; Liu Jingya of China crossed the finish line second with a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes and 08 seconds; Pauline Jepkirul Salgong from Kenya finished in 1 hour Won third place with a time of 19 minutes and 58 seconds.
It is understood that Ma’anshan is located on the bank of the Yangtze River, at the end of Wutou and Chu. Throughout the ages, more than 600 poets have left more than a thousand popular poems and essays in Ma’anshan. Among them, more than 1,200 years ago, the “immortal of poetry” Li Bai left the famous line “Heaven’s Gate interrupts the opening of the Chu River, and the clear water flows eastwards to this point.” Caishiji Scenic Area, a national 5A tourist attraction, is located along the river with cliffs, turbulent water, strange rocks, and magnificent scenery. It is unique in its natural landscape and profound cultural connotation, and is known as the first of the three rocks in the Yangtze River.

In order to fully ensure the safety and smooth completion of the contestants, a total of 1,317 security personnel and 800 volunteers were invested in this event. At the same time, 25 fixed medical points, 15 ambulance points, 35 medical volunteers, 18 first aid runners, and 50 mobile AEDs are set up along the track. (Reporter Zhang Qiang)
