2024 NFL Draft: Is Marvin Harrison Jr. Still the Top Wide Receiver Prospect?

A new report suggests that Marvin Harrison Jr. may no longer be a lock to be the first wide receiver taken in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The star quarterbacks entering this year’s draft have gotten a lot of attention in the lead-up to the April event. And it is understandable since it is the most important position on the field. Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are expected to be the first signal-callers selected and possibly the top three picks.

  • Marvin Harrison Jr. stats (2023): 67 receptions, 1,211 receiving yards, 14 touchdowns, 18.1 yards per catch

After that, the next two teams on the board are the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Chargers and four and five, respectively. Both organizations are set at QB and are expected to use their top pick on the best available player, and for months NFL Draft pundits have claimed that is Ohio State star Marvin Harrison Jr. The son of the Indianapolis Colts legend is viewed as a can’t-miss prospect in this year’s class.

Well, at least he once was. On Thursday, Pro Football Talk revealed that their in-house draft expert, Chris Simms, actually has Harrison Jr. as the third-best receiver on his draft board, behind LSU receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. The outlet also added that “There’s chatter that multiple teams have Harrison behind Nabers, too.”

That is a pretty surprising development considering the hype around Harrison Jr. as one of the best receiving talents to enter the draft in a very long time. Both Nabers and Thomas Jr. posted the same or more TDs than their Ohio State counterpart in 2023. While Harrison Jr. had more receiving yards than Thomas Jr. it wasn’t by much, and Nabers’ 1,569 yards was the most amongst the trio.

Harrison Jr. benefited from being the undisputed top receiver on his team while Nabers and Thomas Jr. succeeded despite having to share the touches with another great pass catcher.
