ALGIERS- The number of companies having obtained approval for the exercise of the activity of dealer of new vehicles amounts to 27, of which 24 were given an import regulation authorization, said Thursday in Algiers the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun.
During a plenary session at the National People’s Assembly (APN), devoted to oral questions and chaired by Moussa Kharfi, vice-president of this body, in the presence of the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Basma Azouar, Mr. Aoun specified that the 24 dealers having obtained regulatory authorization will import 180,223 units of vehicles, motorcycles, trucks and agricultural vehicles.
Next December, the total amount spent on vehicle imports will reach 2.6 billion USD, of which 40% has been consumed to date, indicated the Minister of Industry in response to a question from the MP (Independents ), Massinissa Ouari on the vehicle file.
The granting of approvals for the exercise of the activity of new vehicle dealers intervenes to “desaturate the automobile market, pending the realization of projects having obtained approval for the manufacture of all types of vehicles”, he said. -he continued.
However, adds the minister, “it is necessary to work to alleviate the pressure on the automobile market by judiciously managing the available funds.”
For Mr. Aoun, 40,000 vehicles of the “Fiat” brand will be imported by the end of the current year, which will be added to the 35,000 already imported (same brand), in addition to the importation of 10,000 vehicles of the “JAC” brand before the year 2024.
Furthermore, the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production stressed that his department “is working to lay the foundations of a real automobile industry in Algeria, and to develop this sector through concrete industrial projects”, indicating that the project of the “Fiat” factory in Oran records “significant progress”, the first vehicle due to leave the factory in December 2023.
With the entry into production, locally, of vehicles of various brands in 2024, and the start of the activity of car dealerships, the market will experience an increase in terms of supply, which will help to alleviate the current pressure.
