At least three people were killed and another individual was hospitalized following a helicopter crash in a commercial area of Chatsworth, a suburban neighborhood in Los Angeles, according to local authorities. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening.
Emergency Response and Scene Assessment
The Los Angeles Fire Department deployed 56 firefighters to the scene just before 7 p.m. following reports of the crash, which took place between two commercial buildings located at 9151 N. Branden Silverman. First responders assessed four individuals at the site. Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth person was transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition, fire officials reported.
Authorities confirmed that one of the deceased victims was a pedestrian located in a parking lot. Officials did not immediately clarify whether the remaining victims were occupants of the aircraft or individuals on the ground, nor did they disclose the total number of people aboard the helicopter at the time of the crash.
Aircraft Identification and Fire Damage
Capt. Silverman stated that the aircraft appeared to belong to a news outlet and functioned as a news helicopter, though officials did not immediately confirm its specific corporate affiliation. Local affiliate KABC reported that the crash site is situated near the location of an earlier fatal traffic collision involving a Metro bus and an SUV.
The impact triggered a fire that damaged four vehicles and two storage containers before firefighters successfully extinguished the flames, according to the LAFD. Officials noted that the fire did not expose any nearby structures to secondary blazes.
