A relative checked on him because he hadn’t checked in again. The relative discovered the lifeless body under a spruce trunk. Even first aid measures taken immediately could no longer save him. The emergency doctor in a rescue helicopter could only determine death, the Styria State Police Department said.
The man from Upper Styria was alone in the forest in the morning to carry out forestry work. With the appropriate protective equipment, he cut down several spruce trees with a chainsaw over the course of the day and transported them to the collection point on a tractor. When a relative looked for him around 2 p.m., he found him lying motionless under a spruce trunk about 20 centimeters thick. He alerted the emergency services and tried to free the 30-year-old with the chainsaw lying next to him. Ultimately in vain – the Upper Styrian had been hit by the tree and was probably dead on the spot. Emergency services from the Perchau and Neumarkt fire departments rescued him. No evidence of foul play could be identified. The relatives are cared for by the crisis intervention team.
