The Prosecutor’s Office sentenced 10 years in prison to Ricardo Zapata Lopezwho requested a bank loan from Scotiabank to request a loan of S/90,000, using forged documents from the National University of San Marcos. The sanction includes the payment of S/2,000 of civil reparation in favor of the bank and the UNMSM, in addition to the return of the loaned amount.

How was the crime committed?

To apply for credit Scotiabank Peru SAA, Ricarda Zapata used a forged authorization sheet on letterhead from the General Office of Human Resources of the National University of San Marcos. In addition, he included payment slips in which it was indicated that he was a permanent professor of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the house of studies. Such papers corresponded to September, October and November of the year 2018.

From this, it was possible for Zapata to access a discounted bank loan, due to being on the payroll, and to make the disbursement on December 29, 2018.

How did the courts operate in the Scotiabank case?

To determine the responsibility of the defendant, the provincial assistant prosecutor Guisela María Meza Molina presented the evidence that evidenced the criminal act before the Second Permanent Unipersonal Criminal Court of La Molina y Cieneguilla.

Among the evidences were: the certified copy of the forged payment slips, certified copy of the document called contract application, personal loan summary sheet, the biometric verification record, the bank movement record, among other documents.

From there, the Public ministry of the Fiscal District of Lima This imposed the 10-year sentence of imprisonment, in addition to the corresponding payments for civil reparation to the entities involved.
