380 kV line and landscape | SN.at

During a tour at Nockstein I was able to see the largely finished 380 kV line or rather had to look closely at where the route was visible in nature. In fact, both dark masts and conductor ropes can hardly be distinguished once morest a dark background (forest). The exposed mast on the Nocksteingrat is not an eyesore in the landscape due to its low height.

What is particularly striking when looking from Nockstein is the extensive urban sprawl in the landscape. I assume that many opponents of the line who live here in the green surroundings of the city do not want to have their view blocked by the 380 kV line, but ignore their own, mostly not aesthetically built, “contribution” to a sprawling landscape.

From a biodiversity perspective, it should also be remembered that because of the different structures at forest edges, pipeline routes accommodate more species-rich communities than often monotonous forest areas.
