The Condemned (2007), Scott Wiper

The plot follows the story of Brenner Baker, a US Marine combatant who suffers a violent attack and seeks relentless revenge against those who hurt her. However, the attackers made a mistake in not verifying that Brenner was really dead, and now she is alone on her journey of revenge, destroying everyone who crosses her path. The film follows the daily life of the Battalion of Special Police Operations (BOPE) in Rio de Janeiro, an elite troop of the Military Police trained to deal with extreme situations and fight organized crime in the city. The protagonist is Captain Nascimento (Wagner Moura), leader of BOPE who is tired of the violent routine of his work and is preparing to leave office and become a father. Meanwhile, BOPE is scheduled for a mission to invade Morro do Turano and arrest one of the most dangerous drug dealers in the city. Throughout the operation, Nascimento begins to question his own actions and the government’s public security policies, in an environment where corruption, violence and social inequality seem to be endemic.
At the same time, the film also follows the story of two rookie police officers, Neto (Caio Junqueira) and Matias (André Ramiro), who join the BOPE and have to face the difficulties and dilemmas of life in the battalion. “Tropa de Elite” is an intense and realistic film that portrays the brutality of the fight against crime in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the political and social tensions that surround this theme. The film was very well received by critics and the public, becoming one of the greatest successes of Brazilian cinema.
