British actor Robbie Coltrane has died aged 72, his agent announced on Friday.

Here are four television and film roles that have been significant in his career.

The role for which the actor is most recognized is certainly his character as the half-giant Hagrid in the eight films of the “Harry Potter” series.

Everyone also remembers his famous line “you are a wizard, Harry”, which he throws at the young Harry Potter at the start of the first film released in 2001.


The character of Eddie “Fitz” Fitzgerald in the British detective series “Cracker” (“Fitz” in Quebec) earned three Best Actor awards at the prestigious British Academy Television Awards (BAFTA).


Robbie Coltrane played Russian mobster and ex-KGB agent Valentin Zukovsky in two James Bond films, “GoldenEye” in 1995 and “The World is Not Enough” in 1999.


His role as Danny McGlone in the British miniseries Tutti Frutti earned Robbie Coltrane a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
