With a target set at 4,000 recruitments for 2024, we are not far from a record. As Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder (PS) confirmed on Wednesday, next year the army will recruit more than 4,000 people in different categories, including 2,500 active military personnel (1,250 volunteers, 950 non-commissioned officers and 300 officers), 460 civilians and 1,050 reservists. On January 1, the army employed 25,700 people, including 24,000 soldiers and 1,700 civilians.
To make things easier, the Minister notably announced changes to the selection procedures for certain categories, including a relaxation of the requirements related to the quality of sight for pilots. They will now be able to wear glasses or contact lenses, provided they achieve a visual acuity of 10 out of 10 and 7/10 without correction. “This relaxation is in line with the standards of other countries and the regulations of the European Aviation Safety Agency,” said Ludivine Dedonder.
