Thousands demonstrate in the inner city against racist hate speech by the FPÖ and ÖVP!
Vienna (OTS) – The torchlight procession of the Vienna Socialist Youth was again a complete success. At 8:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, 4,000 people, including many young people, gathered in front of the opera. The motto of this year’s torchlight procession was: “No place for racism!”
“Racist hate speech is actively pursued by politicians from the FPÖ and the ÖVP. We see how right-wing politicians feel far too comfortable trumpeting their racist agitation wherever possible. We can all still remember when the former FPÖ Integration Landesrat Waldhäusl denied Viennese schoolgirls the right to exist on television by saying that they should not be part of Vienna and had no place here. So, rightly so, there was a huge outcry. For us it is very clear: This is pure racism and there is no place for racism, not in Vienna and nowhere in the world!
”, said the chairwoman of the Socialist Youth Vienna, Rihab Toumi, at the final rally on Rathausplatz.
“Our resistance is urgently needed. Unfortunately, the divisive politics are gaining the upper hand. We see right-wing extremists getting stronger all over Europe and in the last few weeks the FPÖ is coming back into state governments and their racism is becoming more and more normal. It is all the more important that there are thousands of us here today on Rathausplatz at the torchlight procession and say: No place for racism! Even if they want to keep us small – we won’t let them get us down!
