Another tragic accident is looming in the holiday paradise…

On the Indonesian holiday island of Bali, emergency services are feverishly searching for two tourists from Germany and Austria who have disappeared in the sea. The two vacationers have been missing since Tuesday, the authorities said.

The German Embassy in Jakarta is in contact with the relatives and local authorities, according to the Foreign Office.

Local rescue services chief Chakra Negara said Friday the two were swept away by the strong current while trying to rescue another holidaymaker in distress. The accident happened when the waves were high on Diamond Beach on Nusa Penida.

The tourist in distress survived – but there was still no sign of the other two, Negara explained. The further rescue measures are now accompanied by unfavorable weather. Negara said: “We continue to search for them. But it’s raining, the winds are strong and the waves are high.” It’s the rainy season in Bali. Further details about the missing persons were not initially known.

The small neighboring island of Nusa Penida, which belongs to the province of Bali, is popular with diving fans from all over the world. Just on Sunday, a tourist from Malaysia died in the same region trying to save another person from drowning.

In the past few days, three almost identical tragedies had taken place in Australia and the Cook Islands. In the island paradise in the South Pacific, a New Zealander died on Tuesday trying to save her daughter in distress from the sea.

Also on Tuesday, a man was killed in Australia while trying to help his daughter who got caught in a current. And on Sunday, a police officer died south of Sydney trying to save his son from drowning. In all cases the children survived.
