He promised a return, he announced it last night in Houston. After a very complicated start to the season with the Warriors, Klay Thompson finally released his signature eruption: 41 points at 10/13 three-point. And the best? Is that it allowed Golden State to win … its first game of the season on the road.
It took that, at least, to get there.
Everyone was talking about it, and we didn’t know when the counter was going to be unlocked. Losers in 8 of their first 8 matches on the road this season, the Warriors could not afford to lose on Sunday night. Not in Houston, not against the young Rockets. We had to win, otherwise the crisis situation would reach a maximum level. It was therefore not Stephen Curry but Klay Thompson who sounded the charge, scoring 20 points in the first quarter with almost 100% success.
Three-pointers in transition, good cuts, fresh legs and a serious look, the real Klay was back tonight. This did not prevent Golden State from worrying us, in particular by letting the bench of Houston do a hell of a job against the weak bench of the Warriors, but these errors of second unit were swept away by a Killa Klay of the great days. Launching the California Space Shuttle, the back was obviously followed by his favorite Splash Brother, Curry accompanying him in his works with an ultra-complete performance and a gala finish (33 points and 15 assists). While his start to the match was more in the silent than ultra-dominant category, Steph saved the best for last and notably sent us his signature “ Dodo on a last prayer in an incredible position.

Knowing that the back was singled out everywhere. Knowing that the first transfer discussions were born in the basketball community. Knowing that the interested party was simply asking Charles Barkley and company to leave him a little of time. We can say that he took his time, and that he finally responded. From 15 points average to 35% shooting? Klay went through Houston and offered us 41 points at 14/23 shooting including 10/13 three-pointers, taking three dribbles and never looking down. A real relief for the player, as he expressed to Warriors analysts at the end of the match, because the basket had seemed to be the size of a thimble for several weeks. Finally finding his legs, Thompson said he was looking forward to just one thing: keep the momentum going.

A simple one-night heat stroke, or the start of a comeback? Klay Thompson will give us the answer soon but one thing is certain: it’s terribly nice to see him crashing like that in the shoot. Because one of the best snipers of all time who is rusty, it’s not cool to watch.
