45 years in her service: Swiss star chef Anton Mosimann remembers the Queen

One person who knows the British royals very well is the Swiss Anton Mosimann. He has been cooking regularly for the royal family for over 40 years. One who particularly loved his creations was Queen Elizabeth II. “She always appreciated my food. She liked it simple, light, well seasoned and beautifully presented, »recalls the 75-year-old in an interview with 20 minutes. The monarch did not have a favorite menu. But something was always important to her: “I was never allowed to use garlic, it was apparently something she didn’t particularly like. She also expected a lot to come from her own garden and from the Royal Family farm.”

Mosimann and the queen were also in regular contact away from the kitchen: “There were always moments when she took the time to talk to my wife and me about private matters for half an hour away from the hustle and bustle. She was a really great woman!” he enthuses. “It may come as a surprise, but she is incredibly humorous, knows everything about world events and knows Switzerland very well. Every meeting with her was an honor.” The pain of her death is great: “When I heard the news yesterday, I had to shed a few tears. It hurts because we and our families are close.” The star chef wanted to pay her last respects at the funeral service.

Like his mom, Charles is a delicatessen lover. Mosimann last saw him three months ago, when he was busy with his kitchen crew in Kensington Palace. “Now he is king and I wish him only the best. It’s a great job for him,” enthuses the star chef. He is certain: “Charles will do well. He’s well prepared for it.” Previously, the two had never talked about the Queen’s passing. “We always just thought about fine dining or sport.”
