This is the highest number of deaths recorded in a single day. 2,45,542 Covid cases have been reported since Thursday. 20,720 cases are in Tokyo alone. 53 people who are in critical condition due to covid have been admitted to a hospital in Tokyo.
In December 2022, 7,688 Covid deaths were reported. Officials said that the eighth wave is now in Japan and the spread of Covid has been increasing sharply since November. In the last three months of 2021, there were 16 times more deaths than the number of deaths due to Covid-19 at the same time last year.
40.8 percent of those who died from August 31 to December 27 last year were above 80 years of age. 34.7 percent are over 90 years old and 17 percent are over 70 years old. Officials said that 92.4 percent of the total number of deaths were in these three age groups.
