482 cases of monkey pox in Belgium: Sciensano warns against atypical presentations of the disease

According to the Sciensano Public Health Institute, it is possible that a person infected with monkey pox develops atypical presentations. “It can be a single skin lesion or no lesion, and for example only anal pain and bleeding. Asymptomatic infections have also been described“, explains the institute on Tuesday in a new directive sent to health care providers.

According to the latest figures from Sciensano, there are currently 482 confirmed cases of monkeypox in Belgium. Generally speaking, an infected person will initially show mild symptoms such as fever, headache and muscle aches. Between one and three days later, rashes will appear.
