Drone, helicopter, gendarmes: the great means deployed to find a Belgian hiker… without his knowledge

This Tuesday morning, a 51-year-old Belgian was about to climb the Pic de Chancou, in the Pyrenees, when he met another hiker at the Russel refuge.

The Belgian then warned the latter of his desire to climb the summit and return the same evening. However, when night fell, our compatriot had still given no sign of life. The shelter was immediately notified and, the next morning, help was called.

Drone, helicopter, field team: major means have been deployed to try to find the trace of the missing person. In vain.

It was only two days later that the 50-year-old, who had returned to the shelter on his own, realized the seriousness of the situation. He will then quickly contact the gendarmes to inform them of a technical difficulty, the cause of his delay. He had to change his route and sleep in a cabin.

This is an adventure he won’t soon forget!
