The incident occurred on Sunday morning in a refugee camp in the city of Tulkarem.
The Israeli army later said an airstrike it had carried out had killed “several” armed Palestinians in Tulkarem. Attackers had previously shot at Israeli soldiers and thrown explosive devices.
Since the brutal attack on Israel by the militant Palestinian organization Hamas, which rules in the Gaza Strip, ten weeks ago, the Israeli army has also increased its operations in the West Bank. Violence by extremist Jewish settlers against Palestinians has also increased since then. According to Palestinian figures, more than 280 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since then.
Hundreds of Hamas fighters entered Israeli towns and villages on October 7 and committed atrocities against civilians. According to Israeli figures, around 1,130 people were killed and around 240 people were taken hostage.
In response, the Israeli army began bombing targets in the Gaza Strip and launched a ground offensive. According to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, which cannot be independently verified, more than 18,800 people have been killed so far.
