Many believe that the change in the shape or color of the eye is an indication that this vital organ is infected, but this may indicate the presence of other diseases, according to the doctor working with the British Health Service, Rachel Ward, who explained in an interview with the British newspaper “The Sun” about the most prominent of these diseases. :

White or yellow lumps near the eyes

If you have white or yellow lumps near your eyelids or nose, Dr. Ward said, it could be a sign of high cholesterol, explaining that “these are called xanthelasma deposits.”

“This could be a sign that you have high cholesterol and a blood test is necessary if you see it,” she added.

According to Ward, “yellow whites of the eyes indicate high levels of bilirubin in the blood, that is, jaundice.”

Ward pointed out that the causes of jaundice are many, it may be a liver infection or gallstones, up to the possibility of cancer.

And Ward indicated that the lower eyelid being lighter than usual is an indication of iron deficiency anemia.

Severe iron deficiency anemia may increase the risk of complications affecting the heart or lungs.

Pregnant women with severe anemia are also at greater risk of developing complications before and after childbirth.

Visual impairment

Visual impairment or partial loss of vision is an indication of the possibility of a defect in the nerves and the brain, up to the possibility of a stroke.

Ward advised: “If your eye movements are affected and you have problems with speech, be sure to seek medical advice to verify that there is no risk to the brain.”
