For many, working from home (full or partial) has become the norm. But while teleworking has many advantages, it is not without risks, physical or psychological. Organization, posture, disconnection… In his latest work “How to become a teleworking ace?” », our colleague Dorothée Duchemin provides practical advice.

Since the Covid-19 crisis, many employees have switched to “teleworking”, hybrid or 100% mode. Indeed, modern technologies allow certain workers to stay at home while being connected to the office by telephone, email, video, etc.

And this situation has many advantages. The teleworker is thus less subject to distractions from colleagues, they often manage their time better, their professional satisfaction is increased, not to mention the savings in time and transportation costs.

That’s the good news. Because the teleworking sky is not always blue. There is no shortage of examples. Isolation, the absence of boundaries between the private sphere and the professional sphere, distractions from family or even the risk of working an excessive number of hours await those who work from home.

In his book “How to become a teleworking ace? », Journalist Dorothée Duchemin draws up a complete list of the different risks as well as little daily tips to get around them.

So the author advises us:

  • Not to hesitate to move: regular position changes, a few stretches every hour, moving around the home, etc. Moving means fighting against the risks linked to a sedentary lifestyle and preventing the occurrence of possible musculoskeletal disorders;
  • In the “musculoskeletal disorders” section, it is imperative to be well equipped: a footrest, an office chair, etc. “ To see with your employer. It is up to him to provide ergonomic equipment.»
  • To combat visual fatigue, remember to blink. “ We don’t do it enough in front of a screen», Specifies the journalist. “ Alternate between tasks that require a lot of visual concentration and others that are less demanding. If it’s too complicated, apply the 20 20 20 method: every 20 minutes, look for 20 seconds 20 feet away from you (about 6 meters). »
  • Think “disconnect.” “ It is the right of every individual to disconnect from their work outside of working hours. Otherwise, overwork, stress, sleep problems or reduced concentration await you.. » So, once the working day is over, we put our professional equipment out of our sight, we respect our schedules unless there is a major emergency, we do not install a professional chat group on our personal smartphone…
  • Finally, a few tips for your mental well-being: no lunch in front of your computer, regular breaks are essential; we don’t hesitate to take a nap between noon and 2 p.m., but no more than 20 minutes!
