What attracts lizards to your home?

Although these reptiles like heat to thrive, they mainly need water to live. Admittedly, refreshing the house will not encourage them to settle there, but the slightest puddle of water may attract them. So fix any leaks and dry wet areas so they have no reason to enter through the windows. You should also know that lizards love light: it is enough that you prepare an aperitif on the terrace so that there is always one who comes to visit you. Finally, if they prowl so often in the garden or if they even try to sneak into the house, it is mainly because lizards are greatly attracted to flies or ants. By carefully treating your insect problem, you will already be eliminating one of their food sources. So be sure to empty the bins more often and keep the inside clean. Even in the garden, try as much as possible to avoid the invasion of ants, otherwise the lizards will stick around.

If you are hostile to chemical solutions, there are natural methods that are just as effective. Take garlic, for example. Did you know that this condiment is a perfect repellent to hunt these small reptiles? If you were looking for an interesting way to get rid of those lizards and even unwanted insects, garlic is an ally of choice.

How to do ?

  • Just put a few cloves on the terrace or balcony, in dark, shady corners (or even in the cracks of the walls) and the strong smell of garlic will keep all these pests away.

Other solution

  1. Otherwise, you can use it another way: grind it and mix it with water.
  2. Then, pour the solution into a spray bottle and spray it on the areas where the lizards appear most often.
  3. Insist well on outdoor spaces, such as the balcony and the terrace, without forgetting the dark parts near the windows, favorite places of these reptiles.

Eggshells and shallot

Apart from garlic, another natural method will also amaze you and above all relieve you! It’s about using eggshells to repel lizards. If you place them in these same places where they often reveal themselves, you will be pleasantly surprised to notice their disappearance. But by the way, how to explain that these shells are so repellent? Simply because they contain sulfur which causes a burning sensation in the lizard’s abdomen. Rather strange, right? And even more surprisingly, the very smell of sulfur is reminiscent of the beak of a bird, the lizard’s natural predator. So this is a great deal for you! You will only have to use them as much as you want and replace these eggshells every three weeks or so.

N.B : if you have it at home, it also works with quail eggs.

In addition, you can also bet on the potential of the shallot, another ecological repellent against lizards. Same principle, they do not support the sulfur or the smell that emerges. How to proceed ? Cut or grind a few shallots before placing them in strategic areas. And voila !

Pepper

Do you like spicy dishes? Well, lizards hate anything that stings! The spicy smell scares them away in no time. Take the opportunity to spray a solution of water mixed with cayenne pepper or Tabasco sauce. And presto, quickly done well, you will dissuade all the lizards from approaching your home.

Advice : Fill holes and cracks with caulk or large mesh to seal enlarged holes. And, while you’re at it, also consider installing weatherstripping on window and door sills. Also consider using mesh and sliding screen doors to prevent lizards (but also a whole range of insects!) from invading the premises.

Lizard trap with a leaf

Before considering tinkering with a trap, first try to find out which lizard you are dealing with. By identifying its species, you will be better equipped to trap it! So, to do this, you have to try to get close enough to take a picture of it from several angles. Next, you need to learn about the types of lizards that live in your area. From there, you will surely have a match and you can better fight those who have taken up residence in your home. For example, small species are much easier to trap with the right baits (humanely too, of course). Moreover, it is not uncommon to even be able to grasp them gently with your hands to dislodge them elsewhere.

Here are the supplies you will need

  • Gloves
  • A sheet of paper
  • As bait, these reptiles greatly appreciate insects, vegetables and fruits.
  • Double-sided tape

How to do ?

  1. Place your bait in the middle of the sheet
  2. Then around your bait, stick the double-sided tape so that it goes around your bait.
  3. For more efficiency, you can put rat and mouse glue on your tape.
  4. The trap is ready, all you have to do is wait..

Caution: This trap should be kept out of reach of children and pets
