Pompstation – Restaurant for Valentine’s Day Amsterdam
Restaurant Pompstation is located in Amsterdam East, in a truly iconic building, with a lovely terrace. The atmosphere is extremely warm and welcoming, which is certainly due to the hospitable and energetic staff. Normally you eat a 3, 4 or 5-course menu, where you choose from the different dishes. And for Valentine’s Day they have a special surprise menu! With the arrival of Karijn, the current chef, the emphasis has been on vegetarian, local purchasing and sustainability for the last 4 years. She is from New Zealand and has put together really fantastic dishes: there are now also many fish and vegetarian dishes on the menu, refined and of high quality. And don’t forget the wines! You can choose a wine pairing with your menu, or let the staff advise you. They have a great deal of knowledge and passion for good food and drinks, and they love to advise you on something delicious to go with it. Read in this review what goodies we ate here! And to complete the evening, if you are lucky, a band will play in the background with very nice, atmospheric music, which immediately makes the evening even more special. Ode aan de Amstel – Restaurant for Valentine’s Day Amsterdam
Restaurant Ode aan de Amstel is located in a beautiful spot in Amsterdam East. You look out over the Amstel while eating the most fantastic dishes. Classic dishes with an Asian twist, very tasty and surprising. You can choose between a nice selection of dishes from the menu, or the 3, 4 or 5-course Chef’s Menu. And that Chef’s Menu is of course very nice for Valentine’s Day! For example, we ate a delicious Tom Kha Kai soup with sweet and sour pumpkin and mussels, and a Corvina fillet that really melted on our tongue. They serve delicious wines with it, and are you more of a beer lover? Let the Ode aan de Amstel beer sommelier advise you, or try their own specialty beer: Eau de Blond! Wolf Atelier – Restaurant for Valentine’s Day Amsterdam
Dining at Wolf Atelier can rightly be called a culinary experience. First of all, the location, outside the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam’s city center, right next to the Amsterdam IJ. The large glass space, which rests on an industrial railway bridge dating from 1920, towers proudly above the rest. A present is already waiting for us on the table, in the form of a wooden cigar box. In the box we find a very nice word of welcome from Michael Wolf, Chef of Wolf Atelier, a bottle of water, a cloth to dab the hands with and a peppermint. A good start is half the work. The Chef has a surprise menu in store for us; let’s just love surprises. What follows is a jumble of culinary delights, special flavor mixes, a great eye for detail, gracefully laid out plates and even hay. Yes, the oxtail broth is infused with hay at the table (!). It’s amazing how the chef manages to give each dish an original twist, but not to make it far-fetched. The dishes are just right, one by one. At the end of this evening, we have no choice but to lick our fingers with satisfaction and say a word of thanks to the Chef. In a word: wow. We enjoyed. Van Rijn Kitchen & Bar – Restaurant for Valentine’s Day Amsterdam
Meters high ceilings, moving paintings and everywhere you look there is something new to discover; that is Van Rijn Kitchen & Bar. After we have taken a seat, we can do nothing but look around in amazement for a few minutes. We came here once for a drink or lunch, but hadn’t gotten to dinner yet. Glad this has changed, because we are absolutely surprised by the beautiful, tasteful dishes and extensive wine list. This evening we eat ceviche of bream, pike perch with smoked eel and for dessert a soufflé of passion fruit cream. Everything very tasty, nothing to criticize at all. What we also like, especially in the light of Romanticism, is that at Van Rijn you have the option of sitting next to each other instead of opposite each other. Just a little bit nicer though. Tip: go for the special cinema menu and then take your date to Pathé Tuchinski around the corner. Kitchen & Bar Van Rijn – Rembrandtplein 17 – Amsterdam Center
Brasserie OCCO – Restaurant for Valentine’s Day Amsterdam
Of course, when it comes to romance, it doesn’t always have to be about food. Might sound crazy coming from our mouths, and okay maybe this comment should be taken with a grain of salt. What we mean to say is that we had a very enjoyable time at Bar & Brasserie OCCO – housed in Hotel The Dylan – where the focus was once not on food, but on wine. And that’s in broad daylight. We enjoyed the high wine at OCCO, where you taste 4 wines with small dishes. All this from your very lazy armchair, overlooking the idyllic courtyard garden that quickly makes your mind wander to sun-drenched summer scenes. Back to the wine. We get, among other things, red wine from South Africa from the David & Nadia label, which we find pleasantly full of flavor and has a slightly bitter, spicy aftertaste. There is also a Chardonnay from Chateau Saint-Roch, a smooth wine with a hint of vanilla. We like it. We will definitely come back, if only to soak up the atmosphere and sink back into that wonderful armchair with that beautiful view. Brasserie OCCO – Keizersgracht 384 – Amsterdam Center
