60 Million State Participation in Friborg Public Transport: A Step Towards Sustainable Investment and Climate Adaptation

2024-03-03 12:17:06

The people of Friborg should approve on Sunday the State’s participation of 60 million in the increase in the share capital of Friborg Public Transport (TPF). The windfall will facilitate the financing of investments and adaptation to climate change.

The object, submitted to the obligatory financial referendum, received more than 56% of yes, after counting in 110 of the 126 municipalities. It was not fought in an organized manner, the UDC being the main opponent, its deputies having already mostly refused the credit before the Grand Council last October.

On the other hand, an interparty committee was formed to support the prospect of improving the offer, with the five groups of the cantonal legislature. It was co-chaired by UDC MP Katharina Thalmann-Bolz and centrist MP Laurent Dietrich. The participation rate currently stands at nearly 57%.

The TPF are the main player in public transport in Fribourg, planning to invest more than 580 million francs by 2030.
