Seven men were arrested following a violent confrontation with two Mexico City Traffic Control police officers and a private security guard during a public space recovery operation in the historic downtown area.
The incident unfolded along Madero and Motolinía streets in the Centro neighborhood of the Cuauhtémoc borough, where personnel from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the Auxiliary Police, and local historic center authorities were clearing parked motorcycles from the public right-of-way.
Operation Escalates into Street Violence
According to the SSC, the situation deteriorated when the two traffic officers faced physical aggression during the course of their duties. A private security worker intervened to assist the officers, only to be targeted in the ensuing assault as well.

Monitorists stationed at the C2 Centro Histórico command center spotted the escalating violence and broadcast an urgent alert for backup. Additional units rushed to the scene to secure the area and detain the seven suspects.
Video footage captured the uniform-clad officers being beaten on the pavement directly outside a pharmacy. Once the situation was brought under control, more than thirty SSC elements deployed along Motolinia Street, stretching from 5 de Mayo to 16 de Septiembre, prompting nearby commercial establishments to pull down their security gates and suspend service.
Police detain men aged 21 to 29
The detained men range in age from 21 to 29 years old. Following their arrest, officers informed them of their constitutional rights before transferring them to the custody of the Public Ministry agent, who will determine their legal status and oversee the ongoing investigation.
Paramedics from the Escuadrón de Rescate y Urgencias Médicas (ERUM) treated the injured at the scene. Two of the victims sustained injuries severe enough to warrant emergency transfer to a nearby hospital for specialized medical evaluation and care.
Capital Police Chief Pablo Vázquez confirmed the operation and the subsequent hospitalizations via social media, emphasizing that the violence will not deter authorities from continuing their mandate to recover public spaces in the historic center.
Mayor demands sanctions for informal pamphleteers
Cuauhtémoc Mayor Alessandra Rojo de la Vega weighed in on the deployment, demanding strict legal sanctions for the detainees whom she identified as informal pamphleteers operating along Madero Street. She claimed the individuals are linked to a Morena congresswoman who treats the streets as her personal property, though she did not name the official.
The intensity of the brawl left both the traffic officer and the private guard with serious contusions, prompting a heavy police mobilization through the bustling commercial corridor. The operation involved a coordinated reordering effort by municipal and auxiliary forces before the physical altercation broke out.
