Malaysia’s world No. 9 men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun saw their Korea Open campaign end in the semi-finals on Saturday, falling to the world’s top-ranked duo, Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae of South Korea. The French Open champions were defeated 21-17, 21-17 by the defending champions in the men’s doubles semi-finals at Jinnam Stadium.
This defeat marked the seventh time in as many meetings that the Malaysian pair has lost to the South Koreans. The Koreans had also eliminated Wei Chong-Kai Wun in front of a Malaysian crowd when they faced each other in the Malaysia Open quarter-finals in January.
Malaysia’s Run Ends at Semi-Finals
Wei Chong-Kai Wun’s run at the Korea Open was the furthest a Malaysian men’s doubles pair had gone at the tournament since Low Juan Shen-Chooi Kah Ming reached the semi-finals in 2018. Their exit on November 7, 2026, concluded their participation in the event held in Yeosu.
Seventh Defeat to World No. 1
The Malaysian pair, who are currently ranked ninth in the world, have been consistently foiled by the world No. 1 Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae. The streak of seven consecutive losses to the Korean duo shows their dominance over the Malaysian pair in their recent encounters.
Previous Meeting in Malaysia
Before their semi-final clash in Korea, the two pairs met earlier in the year at the Malaysia Open in January. During that quarter-final match, which took place in front of a home crowd for Wei Chong-Kai Wun, the Korean pair once again emerged victorious, continuing their winning streak against the Malaysians.
