The walkers immediately called the responsible veterinary office, but the fish all suffocated, the police said on Tuesday. The investigators assumed that one or more unknown perpetrators had probably thrown the animals from a vehicle onto the grass near a transmission tower on the mountain in Harburg (Donau-Ries district).
According to the veterinary office, the fish were previously healthy and no signs of disease were found. After the discovery on Sunday, an investigation was carried out for violations of the Animal Welfare Act. The motive is still a mystery to the police. “Why am I driving up a mountain and throwing massive, large carp next to a transmission tower?” said a police spokesman on Tuesday. “That doesn’t make any sense at all.”
