81,000 Hydro-Québec customers without power

More than 81,000 Hydro-Quebec customers were still without power Friday, around 10 p.m., due to strong winds blowing over part of the province.

The Laurentides region was particularly affected with 20,381 customers affected.

In Montérégie, 18,730 customers were without electricity.

Montreal and Lanaudière also suffered the impacts of the outages with 11,964 and 11,605 customers affected respectively.

By early evening, up to 120,000 people were plunged into darkness.

Hydro-Québec says its teams are mobilized on the ground to try to restore the situation.

Strong winds caused damage to electrical installations. Recovery time may vary from region to region.

A 93 km/h gust was recorded at Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau airport, in Montreal, around 6:22 p.m.
