The 3rd Building Bridges summit tackles the challenges of sustainable transition – rts.ch

Building Bridges, the great rout of sustainable finance, starts Monday in Geneva. For four days, interlocutors from all walks of life have an appointment to exchange, debate and raise investors’ awareness of this theme.

Organized for the first time in 2019, under the leadership of banker Patrick Odier, this major event has become a must in the Geneva financial centre. This year, in addition to the themes of climate and nature, the social dimension induced by sustainable transition will be in the spotlight.

The Building Bridges summit is returning to Geneva for the third time to try to reconcile profitability and sustainability. Over the years, this Davos of sustainable finance has been emulated in a context that is not necessarily conducive this year to this type of issue, due to the geopolitical situation.

“Investing in the most responsible oil companies”

The war in Ukraine and the surge in the price of raw materials have brought the most polluting investments back into fashion, as evidenced by the stock market prices of the major oil groups. A trend also noted by Charles-Henry Monchau, director of investments at Syz banks, in La Matinale on Monday.

But investment is changing according to him, particularly with regard to sustainable funds: “There is a beginning of a change in mentality, we are moving from the ban on investing in certain sectors to still investing in good students, In recent years, many oil companies have questioned the way they reinvest their cash flow, for example by making direct investments in renewable energies, or investments in the capacity to recycle waste pollutants”.

Before sustainability, what counts is profitability for investors. Sustainable finance is at the heart of all debates, but not always at the forefront of investment strategies.
