The cyclist was found on Sunday shortly after 6 p.m. in a ditch along the Orchideeënlaan. According to initial findings, the victim, a 44-year-old man from Sierra Leone, was hit by a motorist, who fled.
A traffic expert was dispatched to the scene to determine the exact circumstances of the fatal collision.
Debris from the car involved was found near the accident.
“The debris found came from an Audi brand car. The driver of the vehicle was arrested. He is a 32 year old man. His driver’s license was immediately withdrawn for two weeks. The man tested positive on the breathalyzer. The suspect has been imprisoned and will be heard on Monday,” said press magistrate Pieter Strauven of the Limburg prosecutor’s office.
